Podcast
We are excited to announce Con Ă‘ de Nosotros, a podcast by Spanish teachers, for Spanish teachers in Australia.
Once a month, Fernanda and Macarena, two colleagues and friends sit down to chat about what really matters in our classrooms: practical strategies, system challenges, time-saving resources, funny (and real) stories, and everything that comes with teaching Spanish far from home in the Aussie context.

To teach in NSW (New South Wales), you first need to consult NESA, the organization responsible for registering all primary and secondary teachers. It’s a lengthy process, but it will grant you a teacher number to apply for jobs directly with schools.
If you want to work at a public school, there is an additional bureaucratic step, with more information available here. Once you have the necessary teacher numbers, there are plenty of teaching opportunities, as there is a high demand for language teachers in NSW. As a STANSW member, you will receive exclusive job alerts as well.
Each state in Australia has its own requirements, so you’ll need to check what’s needed in other states.
Australia has three education systems: public schools (with centralized teacher recruitment), Catholic schools (which recruit through dioceses), and independent schools (which recruit individually).
We hope this information helps, and we look forward to possibly welcoming you as a member of the association soon!
No, we no longer offer an early bird period. Our membership now lasts for 12 months from the date you join, which means you can become a member at any time of the year and enjoy the full benefits for a whole year.
We’ve kept our membership fees the same as last year. However, since we’ve removed the early bird option, it may appear that prices have gone up — but they haven’t. This new structure offers greater flexibility and year-round access for all members.
As a member, you and your students gain access to exclusive events organised by the Association, along with a supportive community of Spanish teachers across NSW. Membership also includes access to a comprehensive database of teaching resources categorised by level, as well as recorded online workshops.
Some of our most popular events include:
Professional Development Opportunities
Biannual conference for Spanish teachers in NSW
Regular workshops (virtual and in-person) each school term
Exclusive access to purchase our STANSW Trial Examination Papers
Student Events
HSC Practice Speaking Day
Social Events
End-of-year dinner

Absolutely! To purchase them, simply become a member and buy them from our products section.
At present, we are not offering Preliminary Papers, but our aim is to begin producing them in 2026.
In the meantime, we recommend looking into STANZA, the New Zealand national Spanish teachers’ association. Each year they produce Level 1, 2 and 3 examination papers, which can be purchased. The Level 2 paper may be suitable for Year 11 students:

While their specifications may not be exactly the same, the listening and reading levels are quite comparable, and you could adapt them to create your own assessments.
